Malca Voyages Family Charter: Cabins, Rates & Kids

Malca Voyages suits families because two cabins, the Master Ocean View and the Quad Room Ocean View, each sleep four with a private bathroom and air-conditioning, and all seven cabins are ensuite. According to Komodo Luxury’s rates as of September 2026, a private 3D2N charter for up to 12 guests costs USD 6,000, subject to change.

Malca Voyages is a 30 m VIP phinisi built with iron wood and teak, departing Labuan Bajo. Komodo Luxury, part of Juara Holding Group, owns and runs it with an in-house crew, so one team answers for the boat and the booking. Komodo Luxury was founded in 2015. It is headquartered in Denpasar, Bali, and its operations base is in Labuan Bajo, as listed on Komodo Luxury (checked 2026-09-16).

Why does Malca Voyages work for family groups?

Families rarely fit a row of identical doubles. Malca’s mix helps:

  • Two four-person cabins: the Master Ocean View (double bed, private balcony) and the Quad Room Ocean View (double bunk).
  • A Triple Room with single bunks for three, handy for teenagers or cousins.
  • Four two-person cabins (Deluxe, Superior, Double Room 1 and Double Room 2) for grandparents and couples.
  • Every cabin has its own bathroom and AC, so nobody shares a toilet with another family at night.

Komodo Luxury also lists a jacuzzi, sunroof, relax area and an indoor lounge with panoramic windows, a sheltered spot at midday.

How can a family group split Malca’s seven cabins?

Start with the capacities Komodo Luxury publishes:

Cabin Sleeps Bed Typical family use
Master Ocean View 4 Double, private balcony Parents with two children
Quad Room Ocean View 4 Double bunk A second family of four
Triple Room 3 Single bunk Teenagers or cousins
Deluxe Ocean View 2 Double Grandparents
Superior Ocean View 2 Double Adult siblings or a couple
Double Room 1 and 2 2 each Double Extra couples

Sample allocations (illustrative; the desk confirms the final plan):

Family group Guests Suggested cabins Private pricing band
Two families of four plus grandparents 10 Master, Quad, Deluxe 1-12 guests
Three generations plus aunt and uncle 12 Master, Quad, Deluxe, Superior 1-12 guests
Extended reunion 16 Master, Quad, Deluxe, Superior, Double 1, Double 2 13-18 guests
Full reunion with teenagers 19 All seven cabins 13-18 guests plus one additional guest

The Quad Room uses a double bunk, so decide who takes the upper berth. Komodo Luxury lists capacity as 21 guests, yet its cabin table adds up to 19 berths; ask how groups above 19 would sleep.

What does a private family charter cost on Malca?

Whole-boat packages are quoted on request for the duration, dates, guest count and inclusions you ask about, per Komodo Luxury’s Malca page as of September 2026 (the 2026 and 2027 tabs match):

Duration 1-12 guests 13-18 guests Each guest above 18

Only the 3D2N day plan is published, so other durations are routed with the desk.

Private charter or shared trip: which suits a family better?

Malca also runs shared 3D2N trips every Friday-Sunday and Monday-Wednesday (October 2026 weekends: 02-04, 09-11, 16-18, 23-25, 30 Oct-01 Nov). Each cabin type has its own shared-trip rate as of September 2026, quoted on request for the cabin, departure date and guest count.

Children aged 3 and over pay full rate, so give every child’s age when you ask the desk to quote the shared cabins and the private whole-boat package side by side.

Shared costs less, but you follow the fixed calendar alongside other guests. Private keeps the jacuzzi, lounge and table for your family, with dates and duration agreed with the desk.

How demanding is the 3D2N route for children and grandparents?

Komodo Luxury’s published 3D2N plan:

  • Day 1: pick-up 08:00-09:00, Kelor Island trek, lunch, snorkelling at Manjarite, sunset at Kalong Island as the bats fly out, dinner.
  • Day 2: 06:00 Padar trek, 08:15 breakfast, 09:00 Pink Beach, 11:30 Komodo Island dragon trek, 14:30 Manta Point snorkel, 16:30 Taka Makassar, 17:30 sunset, 18:00 dinner.
  • Day 3: 06:00 sunrise breakfast, 08:00 Sebayur snorkel, 09:30 lunch and return to Labuan Bajo.

Day 2 is the long one: an uphill Padar climb at dawn, then more land stops and a snorkel. Komodo Luxury publishes no trek distances or grades, so plan around your slowest walker. Guests follow the guide’s instructions, above all on the dragon trek, and destinations can change for weather or force majeure.

What is included, and what should parents pack?

Included: stay on board, meals, mineral water, coffee and tea, guide, snorkel gear, life vests, raw drone/GoPro/mirrorless footage, and hotel or airport transfers on the Labuan Bajo mainland near the harbour (not other islands or Manjaga).

Not included: Komodo National Park fees (per regulation at time of travel), optional drone permit (request seven days ahead), crew gratuities, flights, personal expenses, alcoholic and soft drinks, personal snacks.

So pack your children’s snacks and drinks, plus the hiking sandals and sun protection Komodo Luxury suggests. Guests are liable for lost or damaged gear, worth a word with young snorkellers. Komodo Luxury records trips and may use footage promotionally; mention any privacy preference for children before booking. Labuan Bajo (LBJ) has direct flights from Bali, Jakarta and Surabaya.

How does booking a family charter work?

  1. Send ages and group size. Share dates, private or shared, guest count and each child’s age.
  2. Get a cabin plan. Komodo Luxury says the desk replies within 24 hours.
  3. Pay the deposit. 50% secures the booking. Year-ahead bookings pay 30%, then a further 20% 120 days before.
  4. Settle the balance no later than 30 days before departure; bookings inside 30 days pay in full. Bank charges sit with the sender.
  5. Board in Labuan Bajo after an 08:00-09:00 pick-up.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do children under three pay on a Malca Voyages family charter?

Komodo Luxury’s terms say children aged 3 and above pay the full rate. The Malca page does not publish a separate price for infants under three, so list every child’s age in your first message and ask the desk to confirm the infant charge in writing before you pay the deposit.

Can grandparents skip the Padar or Komodo Island treks?

Komodo Luxury doesn’t publish trek grades, and the 06:00 Padar climb is uphill. Tell the desk who may not want to walk and ask how the crew handles guests who prefer to sit a stop out. On shore, everyone follows the guide, and routes can shift with weather or field conditions.

Does Malca Voyages provide babysitting, cots or a children’s menu?

None of these appear on Komodo Luxury’s Malca page, so don’t plan around them. What is listed: meals, mineral water, coffee and tea, life vests, snorkel gear and a guide. Soft drinks and personal snacks are excluded, so bring your children’s favourites and ask the desk directly about anything else.

Is a shared trip cheaper than a private charter for a family?

Usually, yes. A family of four in the Quad Room pays four per-person shared 3D2N rates, quoted on request, against USD 6,000 for the whole boat privately (Komodo Luxury, September 2026). The trade-off is fixed Friday-Sunday or Monday-Wednesday departures and other guests on board.

What happens if one family member can’t travel?

Komodo Luxury’s deposit is non-refundable and cancellations forfeit payment, but a replacement person can be nominated. If a grandparent or teenager drops out, name someone else for the berth. Trips changed or cancelled by force majeure are not refunded, so consider travel insurance.
