How does the weekly open-trip rhythm work?
The calendar runs on two fixed slots that sit back to back. The weekend group returns on Sunday, and the weekday group boards on Monday. No shared sailing is listed on a Thursday.

The 25-27 December weekend puts you on board over Christmas. A date in this table means the boat is scheduled to sail. It does not mean a bed is still free.

Two sailings cross a calendar line worth noting. The weekend of 24-26 December 2027 covers Christmas, and the 31 December sailing sees in the new year at sea, ending on 2 January 2028.
How does cabin sharing actually work on board?
You pay per person for a place in a chosen cabin type. Your cabin is yours; almost everything else is shared with the other parties on that departure.

Komodo Luxury describes Malca Voyages as a 30 m VIP-class wooden phinisi for up to 21 guests, owned and run with its own crew. Here is how the seven cabins sleep:

Three points the official page leaves open, so raise them when you enquire:
- Beds versus guests. The cabin list adds up to 19 berths, while the specification says 21 guests. Ask how the other two places are used.
- Part-filled cabins. The page does not say whether an empty berth in your cabin can be sold to another guest.
- Minimum numbers. No minimum group size for a departure to sail is published.
Sharing also comes with house rules. Every guest follows the guide’s instructions. Illegal drugs, or behaviour that disturbs other guests, lead to removal from the trip with no refund. Everyone on board agrees to be filmed and photographed, and Komodo Luxury may use that footage in its promotion.
Can you join Malca Voyages solo?
Yes. Komodo Luxury’s own page points solo travellers to a bed in the Triple Room, which has a single bunk bed and sleeps three. It is also the lowest-priced place on the boat; the per-person rate is quoted by Komodo Luxury on request for your chosen departure date, cabin type and guest count.
Before you pay, ask the desk:
- Will the other two bunks go to guests outside my party?
- Is there a single supplement on any other cabin?
- Is my chosen date confirmed to run, and how many guests are already booked?
A few practical points help a solo guest in particular:
- Arrive the day before. Pick-up runs from 08:00 to 09:00, and Day 2 starts with a 06:00 hike on Padar.
- Stay on the mainland. Free pick-up covers hotels near the harbour in mainland Labuan Bajo, not other islands or the Manjaga area.
- Pack from the official list. It includes a dry bag, a power bank, personal medicine, hiking sandals and a Telkomsel SIM card.
- Fly direct if you can. Komodo Luxury lists direct flights to Labuan Bajo (LBJ) from Bali, Jakarta and Surabaya.
How do the three days run for a mixed group?
Everyone moves on one schedule. Day 1 covers Kelor, Manjarite and sunset at Kalong. Day 2 takes in Padar, Pink Beach, the Komodo dragon trek, Manta Point and Taka Makassar. Will I share my cabin with people I do not know?
It depends on the cabin and the date. You always get a place in a private-bathroom cabin, but Komodo Luxury’s page does not say whether an empty berth in your cabin can go to another guest. Solo travellers in the three-bunk Triple Room should expect to ask. Confirm the arrangement in writing before you pay.
Which days of the week do Malca Voyages open trips leave?
Friday and Monday. The weekend group sails Friday to Sunday and the weekday group Monday to Wednesday, both from Labuan Bajo with pick-up between 08:00 and 09:00. Does a departure need a minimum number of guests to sail?

Can I land in Labuan Bajo on the morning my open trip starts?
It is risky. Pick-up for Malca Voyages runs from 08:00 to 09:00, and the boat leaves on a fixed shared schedule, so a delayed flight could mean missing it. Flying in the day before, and staying on the mainland near the harbour where pick-up is included, is the safer plan.
